CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

The Department of Chemistry is one of the newly established Departments in Barkhetri College as Assam Government has introduced Science stream in this college in 2020. Since then, the Department has been running the undergraduate programme in Chemistry. This Department has started its first batch with Twelve students in Honours and Thirty eight students in Passcourse. In the year 2023, the Department has introduced NEP system. In this year, Thirty students in Chemistry Major and two hundred and sixty nine students in Chemistry Minor is enrolled in B.Sc. 1st semester.
The Department has a laboratory equipped with basic as well as sophisticated instrumentation facilities like UV-visible spectrophotometer, electric water bath, distillation unit, digital pH meter etc. The Department is planning to introduce few more sophisticated instruments like Fluorescence spectrophotometer, IR-spectrophotometer in the near future which will provide a suitable environment for research purposes in future.
The Department has a highly motivated team of Assistant Professors who update themselves through research, refresher courses, Faculty Development programmes, Seminars, etc. Most of the faculty members have publications in reputed international and national journals.
The department follows the NEP as well as CBCS-syllabus in Undergraduate Courses under Gauhati University. We hope to introduce Post Graduate Programme in Chemistry Department very soon.
Mission and Vision
The main mission of the department is to motivate mainly the rural area students towards scientific approaches through better teaching-learning processes and conducting seminars, workshop etc. so that they can make them in use for a better future. The department has a vision to create scientific awareness among students and to give them knowledge about proper use and importance of Chemicals in our day to day life and to motivate them to establish themselves in many opportunities available in the field of Chemistry.
